I am gonna do this today…

Today

Outside my window… a perfect Spring day.

From the Learning Room… tying up loose ends, finishing up the school year.

I am thankful for… a whole lot of things, actually

From the kitchen…I smell cilantro.  I just made red beans and rice and had some fresh cilantro, so I added it along with the salsa I made the other day.  Delish!

I am wearing… jeans shorts, grey Crossfit tee.

I am hoping… to finally get the garden done this weekend.  I am WAY overdue.

I am creating… some blankets for family.

I am praying… for some answers to prayers in the next day or so.

Around the house… happy to have a new, bigger house.

One of my favorite things… the early morning hours

A few plans for the rest of the week… school work every day, Classical Conversations closing ceremony on Tuesday evening, finish up laundry, time with friends on Wednesday, Renaissance Festival on Saturday, the rest will be seen…

Updating

So, it has been awhile since I have been on here. I have been so busy with homeschooling, (still) moving into our house, and just generally getting well. I have changed up my meds for the lyme disease. I am more closely following Stephen H. Buhner’s protocol and all I can say is WOW!! I feel tons better. I think I want to be an herbalist when I grow up now :) I am actually too distractible to do that, but I will be using more and more herbs for our illnesses. We already do to an extent, but I will just increase that.

I am working on the direction I want this blog to go. I want it to be “me” talking, but I also want to remain somewhat anonymous. If that is possible. So, we will see.

Until next time…

Do you ever…

wish you could go back and undo something?  I do, I really do.

Happy Birthday!!!

Happy  Birthday to my beautiful sister, Kourtney!  Also Happy Birthday to my “twin” cousin, Misti!  Kourtney is 21 (!) and Misti, who is only a couple months older than me is 30 (!!)  Yes, that means I will be 30 very soon…………….

Happy Birthday to some amazing people who have made my life unbelievably richer.  I love you both so much!

Lent

lent1lent2lent3

I am doing a blog post on Lent.  Lent is a time of reflection on the work that Christ did on the cross.  Today, we went to Ash Wednesday service at a local church.  The church we attend, which is Presbyterian, did not have a service, so we went to a Lutheran church.  I was raised and am a confirmed LCMS Lutheran girl.  It felt like going home.  It has been years since I have been to an Ash Wednesday service simply due to going to nondenominational churches, where it generally is not celebrated like it is in more traditional churches.  Now that I have recently returned to my roots in a spiritual sense, I wanted to teach my children about it and give them the experience of seeing the ashes placed on the forehead as well as the kneeling confessional.

Well, it was wonderful.  So good for me to be able to have some quiet reflective time to spend with God…aside from child wrangling…but the words resonated with me.  The Pastor spoke about David and Bathsheba.  How our sins always seem to have a way of finding us out and also how it affects others.  God has His eye on His children and the Holy Spirit is always there to convict and draw us closer to the Father.

I am looking forward to the next 40 days.  I decided to give up negativity.  It doesn’t have quite the same catch as say giving up chocolate, or internet usage, but it is a very difficult thing for me.  It is truly a sacrifice for me as I tend to me more of a “glass half empty” type of gal.  So, pray for me as I embark on this positive, reflective journey.  I actually think that as I go on and continue to study deeper in this season, I will be humbled by the work that Christ did.  Work that I do not have to do.  Yay!

Food Allergies

We recently got tested (again, though more comprehensively) for food allergies.  We were shocked to see some of the foods that were in the “severe” category.  Ours were gluten, eggs, all dairy, pinto beans, grapefruit, chammomile, spinach, and mint.

We had already removed some of these things from our diet, however some were a shock, even to us.  I am used to this roller coaster ride of food allergies at this piont, but mint?!?  Spinach??

Anyways, the purpose of this note is to encourage everyone to get yourself or your children/loved ones tested for food allergies.  If you have unexplained aches and pains, get sick a lot, have an autoimmune condition, know that some type of food is bothering you, have asthma or allergies in your family or are just plain curious, GET TESTED!  It can serious save your health now but especially down the road.

To consume a food you are allergic to, continually inflames and irritates and wears on the immune system.  80% of our immune systems are in our gut.  Over a lifetime or several years of eating those foods or using those products can really set a person up for illness.

It is not easy to cut out foods.  At.  All.  However, it is SO worth it.  Especially when it is for your child.  A lot of people say, “Oh, I coule NEVER cut out gluten (crackers, breads, noodles, etc) or dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt) or whatever!”  Yes, you can.  It is difficult, but you can.  There are loads of alternatives out there now more than ever.

Anyways, this is a hot button issue for me, so I had to put it out there.

The testing we used was RAST testing (which showed no food allergies, but it is a different type of reaction) and ALCAT (which showed all of our allergies).  Next is Enterolab.  Food allergy tests should be covered by insurance, too.  Even if you cannot afford the testing, trial taking foods out of your diet for at least 8 weeks and see if there is a difference.  It can make a huge difference in your health.
